Mountain City Services, LLC
My name is David Roth. I am an Altoona native. My senior year of high school, I embarked on my career with technology. I worked part time at Ward Trucking keying in fleet maintenance service records through a school work program. I graduated from Altoona High School with a diploma and a certificate in Business Information Processing from the then, Altoona Vo-Tech. Services
As a young adult, eager to see a bit more of the world, I moved to the gulf coast of Florida where I spent the majority of my career working for various publishing companies. Starting in the accounting department for Ringling Multimedia Corporation (RMC), a spin-off interactive company then owned by the Ringling School of Art and Design (which today is known as Ringling College), I worked as the Accounting Manager for RMC and later, PCI Communications Inc., a local offset company that printed private community directories. Migrating into an IT role, I began working for a small interactive media company launched by former employees of RMC. We developed websites, flash animation, digital video, computer based training (CBT) modules for a national learning company and the banking industry along with providing traditional graphic design services, printed products, brochures, etc. With extensive experience on both Macs and PC's, I was a perfect fit for the Systems Administrator position at Clubhouse Publishing who was then publishing SARASOTA Magazine. We grew, purchasing a publisher in Naples, FL, who produced a few titles, including Gulfshore Life Magazine.
During the purchase, we incorporated as Gulfshore Media, Inc., the company expanded the Homebuyer brand to six locations, from Jacksonville to Naples, and caught the eye of a national magazine publisher. Gulfshore Media Inc was purchased, becoming one of six CurtCo Media divisions publishing several national magazines including; Robb Report, Worth Magazine, The Robb Report Collection, San Diego Magazine, Arts & Antiques and Showboats International. The Robb brand also grew internationally, any within a few years, was licensed in over a dozen countries.
As is with the media industry, over time, all but the core brand were eventually sold off. For the past 12 years, I remained a remote employee for the national luxury lifestyle magazine publisher, occasionally travelling to our offices in New York and Malibu. After nearly 20 years in Florida, I made the decision to relocate back to my hometown. At the close of 2016, the core brand was purchased by a larger publisher. The brand was to merge with the new owners, offices and workflow.
I had managed multiple acquisitions in respect to IT and infrastructure, during our growth phases. It was clear for me, that redundant roles would be identified during the process, and for some of us, we would not be retained. Some employees, including myself were released March '17.
The landscape of tech is forever changing. As software and services move to the cloud, many smaller companies simply don't need full time IT staff. Larger IT consulting firms have consolidated support for the larger companies who now outsource their IT needs. I felt I could aim a bit higher and provide quality service to local businesses in need of my skills.
So, it would seem like the perfect launch point for me personally and professionally.
I founded Mountain City Services, LLC in 2017 and today, I am at your service.
Although I have older MS certifications; as time permits, I've made a commitment to myself to study and obtain current certifications. There will be more to come.
